Thread Catcher and a Giveaway!

You all are familiar with obsession with Pinterest.  I recently have decided to start working through some of the projects I have been pinning before I have enough to last me into my next life!

Having an itch to sew something, I collected some pretty fabric the other day and began cutting.  I fell in love with this and thought it would be a cute and quick project that I could finish before having to start dinner.

In the evenings, I crochet, knit, mend clothes, sew and now I have started to embroider and well ..... little tiny pieces of thread and yarn seem to end up everywhere!  I thought a thread catcher would be a great addition to my side table.  It would hopefully hold all those stray threads and yarn that usually stick to the couch, my sweater, my slacks, the cats ..... you get the idea.

This was a fun and fast pattern!  The part that took the longest was choosing which buttons I wanted to use.  It was so fast in fact, that I made one for you!!

Yes, I made an extra thread catcher and would love to give one of my lovely readers a chance to win their very own along with a few other little goodies ..... your very own cross-stitch bookmark to make, a pair of scissors and some needles.

Just leave me a note in the comment section and I will draw a winner on Friday, March 1st.

I love my little thread catcher.  Faithfully using it each evening while I work on my needlework, there are no longer any stray threads laying or 'sticking' around.  I hope the winner will enjoy theirs just as much!

Have a wonderful day and remember to give your loved ones a hug!

Another Cowl

Pin It Although it is the middle of May, the temperatures lately have been so chilly, it feels almost like fall is in the air!

With this chiller weather, I have felt like picking up the knitting needles and doing some more work on cowls.  I don't mind having the yarn sit on my lap when we have the rainy cool temperatures and this way they will be done and ready to wear once the real autumn rolls around!

I have been trying to use up my stash...my stash of fabric, my stash of craft supplies and my stash of yarn.  Sometimes we can get a little bogged down by enough projects that will last well past death!

Starting this cowl a while ago, I felt the need to pick it up again and finish it.  I have to say it is a very easy pattern and in no time I was casting off.  I used yarn from the stash and although I liked how the variegation worked out at the top of the cowl, I am not sure about the lower half......the colors tended to gather in 'blocks' as you can see.

Oh well, I can at least say that this is another UFO completed and if all else fails, I can wear it around the farm!  Oh gosh, I really need to update my Ravelry page!

I do think I will make another with yarn that would be better suited to this project.  What can I finish up now while the rain won't quit?

I Found the Buttons

Remember when I showed you  this post?  Well, I found buttons that I fell in love with and thought they would be perfect on the cowl.

Finally complete and I really like how it turned out.  It is all ready for when the weather turns cold again ... but I am happy to wait to wear it.  I want some hot weather first!

Catching Up

Pin It The last few days have been spent knitting and catching up on a few projects while the rain has been continually. falling. outside.  UGH

BUT at this time of the year I'll take rain over snow any day!

I have been slowly working on this.  I really wanted to finish it while the snow was still blowing but time got away from me as it usually does.

Unfortunately I have an addiction looking through all the patterns on Ralvery and want to start everything!

While I'm almost finished with this project, I am trying to find the 'perfect' buttons that will suit this cowl ... that decision might take me longer than knitting the whole thing!  Any suggestions?  Should I go with brass, silver, or something else?

What have you been working on lately?

Lazy Sunday

Well, we woke to more snow this morning...very frustrating! We have had such a mild winter this year and now Mother Nature has chosen to be a royal pain in the butt in March when we should be enjoying spring like temperatures!

Once the plowing was done, I decided to try and finish the knitted block blanket I started back in January. It was a pattern I found on Ravelry....http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/color-block-blanket-2

The technique is to knit each block separately and then sew them all together.....NEVER again will I make a blanket like this! I did NOT enjoy sewing all the blocks together and I do not care for how it turned out....but it was a valuable lesson.

I do not like to have unfinished projects laying around and I do not like to just stop working on them. I prefer to finish and donate them to Goodwill if I do not care for the end result....that is what I will be doing with this little lapghan.

While I struggled along trying to finish this, dear hubby was in the mood to play 'chef'.... I LOVE that!!! While the sun was setting we all enjoyed his 'concoction' of wild rice, beef and red peppers.....delicious!

Off to enjoy my pot of tea and work on the next project.....have a great evening everyone and remember to give your loved ones a hug!

I'm Trying!

Pin It One of the skills I wanted to learn this year was to knit my own socks. How cool would it be to make all your own socks so you never had to buy any every again?!

Learning to knit with double pointed needles has been a challenge for me but I finally got the hang of it and am progressing quite nicely with the pattern I chose. Although it takes me about 15 minutes to make one round, I am learning!

What new skills have you been working on lately? I love learning from other people.

Mittens

One skill that I have been trying to perfect is making mittens. My skills as a knitter as not proficient enough to try it with needles but I made a pattern the other day by crocheting them.

These are for a friend's grandson. He asked me to make a hat/scarf/mitten set for a grandson and a granddaughter. So I really needed to sit down and figure out how to make mittens.

These mittens are crocheted open as you can see by the above picture, then whipped stitched closed when finished. Very simple and they turned out quite well.

After I had taken this picture, I decided to add a tie to the wrist part of the mitten so they can be tightened when on to keep out the snow.

These still need some tweaking but I am pleased that I was able to make it as least this far! Now only if I can figure out how to knit them....that would be wonderful!

Have a great day everyone and stay cool or warm...where ever you may be on this Earth of ours. :)

Few items I have been working on......

My pastime is crocheting and knitting. I love it. I have been working on a few items during the day or in the evening while sipping a cup of tea. I thought I would share a few pictures with you.

Some will be for a craft fair in December that I am registered for.
Duckie Bib.

Toddler dress.

This is a Christmas gift.

I will be selling afghans at the craft fair as well.

Different patterns and textures.

So cuddly warm on a cold winter night.

I still have many more items to make and I keep busy every day in between housework and yard work.
What do you like to do to pass the time?

Lovely Day!

Perfect temperatures today. Low 70's, sunshine, cool breezes, the smell of autumn in the air. I couldn't ask for anything better. When someone slows down, escapes the rat race and can enjoy the very essence of what is good on our Earth....there is nothing better.

Bob took the day off work today so he could take Pasie to see the doctor for his routine appointment. All is well and we are happy. The rest of the day we sat in the sun enjoying the birds singing and the crickets chirping while visiting with company. When I first met Bob, it was difficult getting use to the amount of company that would stop by on a regular basis. Each day we have at least 8 people, stopping in for coffee, for some advice on automotive repair or just to shoot the breeze.

I did wash laundry and hung them on the clothesline. There is nothing better than clothes that are air dried by the sunshine and fresh air. It is very economical too which helps us to become more self-sufficient and not relying on the electrical company.

This is our goal for our retirement. We do not want to have to depend on big corporations to make our lives happier or easier. We are currently debt free and plan on staying that way. Yep, no mortgage, no car payments, no credit cards. Everything is paid with cash and if we don't have the cash then we don't purchase the item.

Being debt free wasn't an easy process. It took time and planning....but I will never go back.

Dinner will be a simple meal of boiled sausage, scalloped potatoes from the garden, fresh salad from the garden and green beans...also from the garden. I love gardens! It helps so much with the pocketbook in the summertime.

This evening I will spend making dishcloths for the upcoming craft fair in December that I plan on entering. I have currently 10 made and would like to have about 25 for stock so....off to do some more knitting before I have to begin cooking.

I hope each and everyone of you have a wonderful day and give your loved ones a hug! :)
