Taking a Break

I will be taking a blogging break for a week and a half.  I have lots to do between now and then and my mind isn't up to creating posts that I think you would all enjoy.

This is an exciting time for me and I hope to share good news with all of you soon!

Trying to Keep My Mind Busy

Lots happening around here at my Mom's and I am very impatiently waiting for a certain 'date' to come.  I will fill you in more on that later...so in order to try and keep my sanity, I have been dreaming of sewing.

I found these books the other day at my Mom's library and flipped through them, enjoying the patterns and ideas.  I think I might just have to try and make myself a skirt once back home.  I am kind of liking the idea of sewing some clothes for myself.

Basket Work

Pin It My Mom picked up this cute basket at a yard sale last weekend. She doesn't know what she wants to use it for yet but I am sure it will hold some type of craft she will be working on.

Since the basket must have held some messy items at one time, I suggested a cute fabric liner to hide the messiness and add some cuteness factor to it.

Measuring from the bottom of the basket up to the top, I then added 2 inches for the top (to add an elastic) and 1/2 inch to the bottom for seam allowance.  I then cut a circle 1/2 inch bigger in diameter for the bottom.    Does that make sense?  I just kind of winged it.

Sewing the long piece of fabric into a tube, I then sewed the tube to the bottom circle.  Now the top was a tad bit tricky.  See the handle?  On each side, it is attached of course to the basket.......so in order to have the elastic all around the top to hold the liner in place I needed to do some fudging.

I was planning on detaching the handle but that didn't work so instead I sewed ties to the sides of the liner.  It was an easy fix and turned out pretty good too!  I never did use the elastic...it wasn't needed.

She now has a cute basket that can hold some of the projects she is working on.

Thrifty Thursday

First up .... my Mom found this one and I bought it from her....$2.00...I just love this bird feeder.  LOL  Great find Mom...the birdies will love it!

Next..this little table.  It will need some refinishing but I thought it would be perfect beside our bed.  Cost $2.00

I love the detail.

Taking a Day

I have been so busy lately, I just need to take a day.  Flights being booked, appointments made, paperwork up the ying yang......so I need a day to catch my breath.  

I will return tomorrow with Thrifty Thursday because.....well, thrifting never ends does it?  LOL

Tuesday's Tip

Pin It What do you clean your windows with?  Many of us who are frugal and pinch pennies use good old vinegar which works very well.

This is the method I use......BUT...there are a few of you out there that do not like using vinegar as a cleaner.  SO if you are looking for a cheap alternative to Windex think outside the box....

windshield washer fluid!  Did you ever think to use this stuff?  It is used to clean your car's windows so why not the windows in the house.....AND...this stuff is cheap!  Right now it's on sale at the local supermarket for 99 cents a gallon!  You would never find Windex that cheap.  

So if you don't like using vinegar, try good old windshield washer fluid for your windows.  A cheaper alternative.

Handmade Coasters

Pin It I love Etsy.  The talent on that site amazes me.  I introduced the site to my Mom as she had never heard of it.  Well, she was blown away as well ... and the ideas that can be drawn from the shops on there are endless.

Having all the supplies on hand, my Mom decided to let her creative juices start flowing and she has come up with these....

I LOVE them!  She made me a set with pictures from Lucas' toddler years.  I will treasure them.  She has made her sister sets of all her grandchildren, her neighbor a set of their pets and the list continues to grow.

She has been busy making a variety for me to take home and sell them at our fall and Christmas craft shows that I enter.  I think they will sell well!

Now I just need to figure out what my crafts will be....Mom has me beat already.

The News I Have Been Waiting To Hear Has Arrived!

I can't go into too many details but the news I have been waiting to hear has arrived!  I am so excited and will hopefully be going back home at the end of August.

My dear hubby has been holding down the old homestead without me for quite a while and I cannot wait to dig my toes in my own dirt once again.

My Mom has been an angel helping me.  I have felt like a young child again, being wrapped in her embrace and she has spoiled me rotten with cooked breakfasts and doing my laundry.  I appreciate all she has done for me.

Too much to do today but had to share my joy.  Have a great day everyone!

Thrifty Thursday!

I finally found a pasta roller!!!  The best part is .... it was never used!  Whoot!  I see lots of fresh, homemade pasta in my future.  Cost - $5.00

This little baby, I just couldn't pass up.....it was speaking to me somehow.  Where I will put it or what I will do with it...I am not sure but I will figure something out!  Cost - $3.00

Beach Time!!

I have a picture of Lucas hanging in the hallway at home from when he was about 10 years old at the beach.  He is sitting with a buddy with their backs to the camera and the lake in front of them.  It is one of my favorite pictures with the two of them enjoying the serenity of the water while discussing the complications of life.....well, it was probably more like the strategies of a video game but a Mom can hope right?

While Lucas and Sarah were here, we all headed to the beach on the first of July to enjoy the festivities but instead found a deserted stretch of water.  Around here most people own cabins and head up to them with family and friends which has greatly reduced the amount of people at the public beaches and parks.

Lucas and Sarah didn't mind.  They enjoyed the quiet.  Sarah had been wanting to go swimming for a long time and this was her chance.....however, she doesn't know how to swim.  She still had fun playing in the water in-between some sketchy swimming lessons from Lucas.  

We enjoyed a picnic first and while deciding if the water was warm enough, both Sarah and Lucas sat on the edge of the water .... picture perfect once again!  I quickly snapped a shot.

Now this one will replace the other....or maybe hang side by side.  There is something about this shot that warms my heart.  

And this shot, well this shot will be printed upon canvas as a Christmas present for them I think.
