Sammy

Yesterday Bob and I had to make the difficult decision of putting down our `thirteen year old Rottweiler Sampson.  Sammy experienced a seizure in the afternoon so we rushed him immediately to the vet.  After tests were done, it was determined that he was bleeding internally and had massive cancer throughout his body.

As the lethal injection was administered, Bob and I sat and murmured loving words with lots of hugs and kisses.  He passed peacefully.

He will be so missed.  Sammy didn't have a mean bone in his body and was loved by all who knew him.

RIP

OUR DEAR SAMMY

WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU

Remember to give your loved ones a hug!

  1. Ohhhhh, so sorry for your pain! It IS very difficult to let your Sammy go. So blessed that it wasn't long and drawn out. They are like a baby and can't tell you if they hurt and where!! God Bless you and your family!

    1. Thank you Suzan. I agree...they are unable to tell you when they are in pain and I cannot stand to see an animal suffer. It was a difficult decision but the right one. Hugs

  2. Oh, that is never an easy decision, even when it is obviously the right one to make. Hugs to you. Sammy was a lucky dog to live in such a kind family.

  3. So sorry for your loss. Such a difficult decision, but sometimes the best if there's no hope.
Big hug for you both, missing your boy.

  5. Oh Debbie! Major hugs to you and BOB!!!!The loss of our fur babies no different than any other family member. 13 years was a well loved life for a large dog & I'm so glad you we able to make his passing peaceful and painless. I'm so sorry. We are 6 months after loosing our Buddy and I still look for him in the drive or call for the errant drops of food on the floor. Prayers of peace & healing heading your way

  6. Awh so sorry for your loss. I had to put my border collie down a couple of years ago on my birthday. She also had cancer and it sounds like a similar situation. It is a difficult decision, I know.

    Hugs,
    Ann

  7. So sorry for your loss. I can totally relate, as we had almost the same scenario here at our house a couple of years ago too. One of the saddest days of our lives.

  8. Reading your post reminded me of when I had to do the same for my 14yo Golden Retriever a couple of years ago. I almost had to be pried off her once she had gone. It is so heart wrenching. My thoughts are with you at this time.

  9. My thoughts are with you; I am sorry for your loss of Sammy ... It can be such a brutal decision, even though it's the right one when there is pain and suffering. We had to put down my beloved cat Dinky, who'd been with me for 16 years, just a few months ago, and it still smarts a lot. My only consolation is that she, like Sammy, is not suffering any more. Xo

  10. Dear Debbie, my heart goes out to you & your family! I'm so sorry for you loss - such a heartaching decicion to make. The house must feel very empty now ... from now on you have the memories of Sammy - he'll be living in your hearts.
We experienced something alike, our old Niki (golden retriever) got cancer in the blood, it couldn't be treated . My dad was heartbroken, and I still remember when my mom and I took him to the vet - he rested his head on our laps, as he was injected last time ...
Hugs and blessings to you & your family, xoxo

    1. Oh Nina, that is almost exactly how Sammy went. We watched him pass as he was injected and it was so painful to watch but we didn't want him to be scared. Thank you for your story and my sympathies to you for the loss of Niki. Hugs
